Jennifer Burk headshotWe would like to warmly welcome all of our newest members as a result of our membership promotion, SeptMEMBER!  The campaign was a huge success and generated 47 new members!  We invite you to attend our events and to get involved with one of our committees!

Battle of the Broadcast Stars!
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at BATTLE OF THE BROADCAST STARS on October 23rd!  Some of the teams that will be competing this year include:  ABC Spot/Moroch, FOX SSW/HTS, NBC/Telemundo, Telerep/The Company of Others, KTVT and KDFW/KDFI.  This a “field day” for adults, filled with lots of fun and outdoor competitions.  If you’re not participating, come out as a spectator to network with the media community and enjoy some beverages.  This year we are mixing it up:


Date:  Thursday, October 23
NEW venue: The Rustic!
NEW time: 3:00-5:30 p.m.
Cost at the door for spectators:  $10

We will be selling raffle tickets for some great prizes, with the proceeds benefitting the AWM Scholarship Fund.  Cost is $5 each or five for $20.

Calling all College Students!
Essay Contest:  October 1-31
Do you know a college student who could use some extra cash?  We are calling all college students to enter AWM’s 2014 Essay Contest, co-sponsored by The Dallas Morning News.  Students may choose one of three topics important to the media industry and AWM’s mission and write an essay.  Cash prizes include:  1st Place:  $500, 2nd Place:  $250, 3rd Place:  $100, plus an AWM membership and opportunity to participate in AWM’s Student Media Tour in the Spring.

UTA Communications Day
AWM-DFW will once again be participating in the UTA Comm Day with a booth on October 22 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  Comm Day offers students a chance to network with top communication professionals who are eager to help students increase their potential of landing a coveted communication position.  If you have questions or would like to get involved, contact Vivian Unger at veunger@swbell.net

DREAM Fund’s Chili Cook-off

DREAM Fund’s Chili Cook-off is on November 15th this year and it is always a fun way to spend a cool, crisp Fall Saturday!  It is a family and pet friendly event at Addison Park Circle with live music, bounce houses, face painting and a balloon artist for the kids! 

AWM-DFW looks forward to volunteering at the Chili Cook-off and we hope you’ll join us!  We won’t be competing in the chili contest this year, but will be supporting the event by handing out beer, so look for our booth!  If you’d like to sign up for a shift to work in the AWM booth, contact Lindsey Weiner, Lindsey.Weiner@gmail.com

Jingle Mingle 2014
Save the evening of December 11 for Jingle Mingle, an all-industry holiday party benefitting DREAM Fund.  More than 10 marketing organizations collaborate to sponsor this party that will be at Gilley’s Dallas.
