2012 Battle of the Broadcast Stars Recap
Alliance for Women in Media recently held one of their annual signature events, The Battle of the Broadcast Stars, at Lee Park in Uptown Dallas. AWM/DFW Vice-President/Programming Veronica Willingham chaired the event as teams from various ad agencies and media outlets paired for a day of games and fundraising on an unseasonably warm first day of November.
According to Willingham, “AWM-DFW strives to provide events for our media community that promote our organizational mission and encourage a cohesive team environment across all platforms of our industry. Battle is one of our most anticipated yearly occasions and would not be possible without our wonderful sponsors, volunteers and board members. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event so successful again this year.”
Teams for the 2012 event were: CBS-TV teamed with Universal McCann, Telemundo Dallas with Moroch, Radio One with The Loomis Agency, ABC National with RPA Advertising Agency, Univision with Universal McCann, Katz Media Sales with SW Media Group, WFAA with Asher Media, and NCC Media with the other Moroch team.
CBS and Universal McCann won The Golden Shoe Trophy for first place this year. WFAA and Asher Media came in second and ABC National and RPA took third. CBS and Universal McCann won in the Best T-Shirt category. Team Telemundo and Moroch won the Fundraising Award.
Both the national organization and the local DFW affiliate work to improve the quality of the electronic, print, broadcast and radio media; promote the entry, development and advancement of women in the media and allied fields; serve as a medium of communication and idea exchange; and become involved in community concerns through their events, charitable fund raising, and educational luncheons scheduled throughout the year.
