FT NEWS METEOROLOGIST

TITLE:    FT News Meteorologist JOB # KUVN 13-02
REPORTS TO:        News Director
SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
•    Anchor weather segments  on regularly scheduled newscasts
•    Responsible for airing severe weather alerts, cut-ins and crawls
•    Compiles forecasts and other weather date using Weather Central system.
•    Arranges and composes maps and illustrations using Weather Central system
•    Makes public appearances, including  school visits and station promotions
•    Focus on Feature/lifestyle/entertainment content
•    Generate own story ideas
•    Produce daily content on variety of platforms including, internet, social networking and mobile

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONSIDERATION:
•    Effective news writing ability for all platforms
•    Ability to entertain as well as report
•    Story telling ability
•    Considerable live shot experience
•    Knowledge of News gathering equipment and computers
•    Strong organization and motivational skills
•    Ability to perform well under pressure, manage breaking news situations, meet strict deadlines, and respond quickly to changes
•     Able to use computer database to research statistics and facts
•    Flexible to work any assigned shift, including evening and weekends.
•    Posses excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•    Able to identify problems and develop solutions.
•    Strong journalistic standards and ethics

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
•    A college degree in Journalism, Radio/Television or related field from accredited University preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
•    Two to five years on-air weather anchoring/reporting experience.
•    Live interviewing /adlibbing skills and accuracy are a must. 
•    Must be able to interpret and translate from English to accurate Spanish. 
•    Strong personal computer skills and knowledge of computer-based video recording equipment and editing principles is required. 
•    Basic knowledge of TV broadcast equipment and terminology including Weather Central System

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Excellent and grammatically accurate Spanish language skills – both written and oral - required.  Bilingual - fluency in English and Spanish is required
